EDF Energy has announced that Tim McCoy is to lead the company's media relations team.
His appointment follows a recruitment process to replace the outgoing Head of Media Relations, Kaa Holmes, who has been promoted to become the company’s Employee Relations and Engagement Director.
Tim joins the company from Starbucks where he has been Director of Communications since 2009.
He will lead EDF Energy's in house media relations team, which last year won PR Week's 'Private Sector Department of the Year'. The team provides external communications support to every part of the business and covers both corporate and consumer issues.
Tim spent 14 years at the BBC and then moved on to become Blue Rubicon's Head of Media prior to joining Starbucks. Speaking about his move to EDF Energy, he said:
"I feel privileged to be joining EDF Energy at such an interesting time in the company’s development. The industry as a whole is undergoing major change as we address the need for clean, secure and affordable energy for the future.
"EDF Energy is at the vanguard of all of this as the company that runs most of the country’s nuclear power stations and is the largest supplier of low carbon electricity. It’s also at the forefront of plans to deliver new investment in new low carbon generation – including nuclear and renewables. EDF Energy has also been proactively addressing the consumer trust agenda with a bold set of commitments and industry-leading products. This is an exciting time to get stuck into these issues and I’m looking forward to joining the team."
