Council Asks For Views On Tenancy Strategy

Carlisle City Council is asking for views on a new tenancy strategy, drafted as part of new national housing reforms.

Reforms introduced in the Localism Act 2011 may impact on the way people access social housing, the way tenancies are issued, and the way that the City Council responds to homelessness presentations.

As part of the new legislation, the City Council is required to publish a Tenancy Strategy which sets out their housing objectives, and to which registered providers should have regard to when developing or reviewing its own approaches to allocating and letting social housing.

They are consulting on this document to gather feedback on the content of the draft Tenancy Strategy, and to provide partners and interested stakeholders with the opportunity to feed into the Strategy and shape the final version that will be published in January 2013.

The draft Tenancy Strategy, which contains key consultation questions, can be downloaded by visiting the City Council's website or is available from Carlisle City Council's Customer Contact Centre, at the Civic Centre. They welcome responses from all those with an interest in housing in Carlisle and the wider district, although the consultation is particularly aimed at:

•Registered providers (housing associations)

•Charities and non-statutory agencies involved in the provision of housing or housing-related support

•Voluntary and community associations

•Resident and tenants' groups

•Members of the public, including individual tenants

•Private sector landlords
