Seven local authorities in Kent and Medway, in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and national Government, have reached agreement on the disposal of land and property assets formerly owned by the South East England Regional Development Agency (SEEDA).
The partners met at the Rochester Riverside development in Medway to formally sign a Stewardship Agreement that sets out how they will work together to ensure these assets, which are now in the HCA's ownership, contribute to economic growth and provide regeneration opportunities for local areas.
Included in the list of assets that are covered by the agreement, Rochester Riverside is earmarked for the delivery of new homes, business premises and employment opportunities. The Hyde Group is delivering the first phase of the scheme which will provide 41 extra care homes for older people, 24 apartments for first-time buyers and eight homes for social rent.
Terry Fuller, Executive Director at the HCA, said: "This partnership signals our commitment to using our assets to boost the Kent and Medway economy. We’ll continue to work closely with local partners to coordinate the delivery of these assets as well as share our expertise in linking housing and regeneration to job creation and growth."
Rob Scott, Regeneration Director at Dartford Borough Council, said: "Dartford Borough Council is working in partnership with the HCA to achieve benefits from these sites for the people of Dartford. The signing of the agreement enables the Council to influence the way in which previous investment in the projects is used."
