Residents Views Wanted To Improve Town's Gateways

Residents can give their views on how to improve the look of entry routes into Chesterfield in a project managed by Chesterfield Borough Council.

Barratt Homes and the European Regional Development Fund have contributed £500,000 to make environmental improvements and install public art at key sites around the edges and entry points to the town centre. The funding can only be used for this purpose and is separate to budgets paid for by council tax.

The Chesterfield Gateways project responds to requests from businesses, who are members of Destination Chesterfield, who told the council improving the appeal of entry points into Chesterfield would provide an economic boost to the town.

Councillor John Burrows, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, said: "We are keen to do all we can to promote our town and encourage inward investment and the Chesterfield Gateways scheme is an opportunity to do just that.

"The great thing is that we have been able to bring in external funding so can make these improvements without any impact on the core services that we provide to Chesterfield residents as a council.

"I urge residents and businesses in Chesterfield to let us have their feedback on improving these vital entry points into our town, which will hopefully help us attract more businesses and jobs to the area."
