Minister Congratulates First New Home Buyers

Housing Minister Carl Sargeant has visited a housing development in Wrexham to congratulate the first new home buyers taking advantage of the Help to Buy - Wales loan scheme.

With a Help to Buy - Wales shared equity loan, Daniel Jones and Rebecca Lawrence are buying their first home together from Bloor Homes at Gatewen Village.

Mr Jones said: "We are very excited to be able to purchase our very first home with a helping hand from Help to Buy - Wales. The scheme has given us the opportunity to get onto the housing ladder and to own a brand new home which otherwise would have been out of our reach."

The Welsh Government's £170m Help to Buy - Wales shared equity loan scheme, which opened for business on 2 January, makes home ownership easier for buyers of new homes who have small cash deposits.

Minister Sargeant said: "It's great to be here to congratulate Daniel and Rebecca on buying a new home and to see how the Help to Buy - Wales scheme is helping home buyers and the construction industry here in Wales.

"We launched the initiative earlier this month to help more people get onto the property ladder and provide a much needed boost to house builders and the economy.

"In little over two years, the scheme will support the purchase of around 5,000 new homes in Wales and it's good to hear that over 30 builders are already offering Help to Buy - Wales loans and we expect this figure to more than double over the coming months."
