A group of young people have completed a programme of 'Get Into' events, supported by Balfour Beatty.
The 'Get Into' programme is a series of short vocational courses to help develop young people's skills in a specific sector. Last year, around 50% of young people completing a course moved on to permanent work, with a further 25% going on to more training.
The programme consisted of the completion of a two week course combining training in event management with related work experience at the finals of the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games, which were held at Crystal Palace last weekend.
Balfour Beatty is a Gold Patron of the Prince’s Trust and through ‘Get into Construction’ has directly supported over three hundred disadvantaged young people to gain full time employment in the construction industry over the last four years.
As part of the celebration of their achievements the young people were invited to see the work which Balfour Beatty is doing to convert the iconic former Olympic Stadium for community use on behalf of the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC).
Tony Ellender, Emerging Talent Development Manager for Balfour Beatty UK Construction business, said: "We have been delighted to be able to use the London Youth Games as a platform for providing work experience for another ‘Get into’ programme and are grateful to the LLDC for allowing us to use this fantastic venue to celebrate the young people's achievements.
"It's a great example of collaborative working and a superb way of combining construction, sport and the ongoing legacy of the London 2012 Games to help address the serious youth unemployment issue in the UK."
Anna McGinnes from the Prince’s Trust, said: "These young people have all worked very hard to successfully complete the ‘Get into Events’ programme which we couldn’t have made work without the support of Balfour Beatty."
