House builder Galliford Try is to develop 350 new homes as part of the £141 million Royal Docks project in London.
Appointed by Notting Hill Housing (NHH), phase one of the GEQ scheme will comprise a range of one, two, three and four bedroom homes. Plans include 44% affordable housing, including shared ownership and affordable rent tenures.
More than a third of these will be 3 and 4 bed styles, in line with Newham Council's aim to significantly increase the supply of family accommodation within the borough.
The first phase will also provide commercial space, much of which will be specifically aimed at business start-ups.
Kate Davies, chief executive of NHH, said: "We are thrilled to begin the first phase of our showcase London Docklands scheme, GEQ.
"Playing our part within the largest urban regeneration project in western Europe will indelibly shape the place and create more quality homes across the capital.
"We support the vision, crafted by Newham Council and the GLA, for the regeneration of the historic Royal Docks. We are investing heavily in what we believe will become a major new centre for homes, business and leisure in east London. GEQ will provide new opportunities for local people and those who want to be part of the renaissance.
"We will retain 73 of the homes on the first phase for our Market Rent portfolio, showing our confidence in the locality, the likelihood of value growth, and our desire to make homes available to a wide range of people."
The GEQ project will introduce 819 new residential homes; riverside bar and restaurant venues; and local retail and business space. The regeneration scheme will also create internal garden squares and a public realm along the river and docks, alongside improved public transport, pedestrian and cycle routes.
