Research Reveals Salaries Of Civil Engineers

Construction News Image
The salary of a civil engineer varies from region to region across the UK, new research has revealed.

According to recruitment consultancy Maple Resourcing, an experienced UK civil engineer typically commands a fee of £45,300, while graduate workers receive just under £24,500 on average.

However, regional differences can cause variations and surprising contradictions.

In the South East, experienced civil engineers are paid the most, with £56,250 on average.

However, graduates in this region, as well as Wales, are typically paid only £24,000 a year, less than anywhere else apart from the North East.

The Midlands and Scotland are the most 'lucrative' places for graduate civil engineers, with average salaries of £26,500 and just under £25,700.

For experienced staff, Scotland offers the second highest average salary of £47,250, while in Wales this figure stands at £37.250.

Gillian Econopouly, Head of Policy and Research at CITB, said: "This research shows just how rewarding a career in construction can be. Whether a civil engineer, bricklayer or a scaffolder, there are options for a well-paid, successful career.

"With CITB forecasts indicating over 220,000 new construction jobs will be created over the next five years, there is no better time to enter the industry."
