BAM has won a contract to deliver a £40 million retirement village in Worcestershire.
The company will create the facility for BUPA-owned Richmond Care Villages at Wood Norton near Evesham. BAM is also building another retirement village for the client in Witney, Oxfordshire.
With design work being undertaken by BAM, features include 48 village apartments, 46 suites for assisted living and a 60-bed care home providing nursing and dementia care. In addition, a wellness spa will be developed as well as lounges, library, terrace café, restaurant and garden bar.
Demolition work is already underway at the site, which included removing roof tiles to allow bats to escape and asbestos clearance to buildings in the former BBC Residential Training Centre. Groundworks are also being undertaken to a 26,000m3 cut excavation for the basement.
Rod Stiles, Regional Director for BAM Construction in the Midlands, said: "This is a significant high quality private development in a specialist sector. We are very appreciative that the client has put its trust in us again."
Managing Director of Richmond Care Villages, Paddy Brice, added: "We are pleased to be working with BAM again on this prestigious new retirement village for Worcestershire. Richmond Wood Norton is an extremely complex development with a main Village Care Centre of 100,000 sq.ft, but I am confident that BAM have the expertise to deliver a fantastic building for us to provide the very best in retirement living and care."
Construction is due to be completed in September 2018.
