Plans have been revealed for a £1.4 billion shopping centre redevelopment project in London.
Hammerson and Standard Life Investments is proposing to transform Brent Cross Shopping Centre as part of a larger £4.5bn regeneration plan for Brent Cross and Cricklewood.
Features of the new Brent Cross will include:
• Over 200 retail brands, 40 new restaurants, a cinema complex and hotel accommodation.
• A town square that will become a hub for leisure and entertainment activities.
• An enlarged and relocated bus station.
• Improved public spaces, including a new Riverside Park.
• New homes.
• New employment and training prospects for local people (up to 3,500 retail jobs and 5,000 construction jobs.
Overall, the multi-billion pound regeneration project aims to create a new urban quarter in North London.
Plans involve building an enhanced Sturgess Park, a main town square and riverside landscaping with new pedestrian/cycling routes, a new living bridge and a green landscaped boulevard.
The southern part of the regeneration will see Argent Related and Barnet Council build almost 6,700 homes as well as new parks, offices and communities facilities.
Following consultation feedback, a detailed planning application will be submitted for consideration in spring 2017.
Barnet Council Leader Richard Cornelius said: "Brent Cross London forms a vital part of our regeneration scheme which will see this part of London become a thriving new neighbourhood. The scheme already has outline planning consent and I am confident that the new shopping centre, along with the new station and the development to the south of the A406, will breathe new life into this area as well as creating thousands of new jobs."
