Kier has reached an industry milestone by securing its first Ultra site award by the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS).
The accolade has been given to Kier's Sports Park 2 development in Treforest Industrial Estate, becoming the only site in Wales to achieve this status.
For any site to be considered for Ultra status, the main contractor is required to get all subcontractors, designers and suppliers working on the project to sign up to the scheme, allowing them to all work together to get the highest score possible.
To achieve this, Kier's project team has put a number of new measures in place, as well as working collaboratively with the supply chain.
One of the innovations has been the installation of an interactive hoarding for the public, enabling people to see what the completed scheme will look like. Featuring a painted a silhouette of a sea binocular on the hoarding to act as a viewing hole to the, a weather proof box containing a digital picture frame inside it located behind the hole, showing a video of the computer generated fly through of the finished scheme.
Jason Taylor, operations director, Kier Construction Western & Wales, said: "Since the scheme started, we've been looking at ways to improve not only the way the site operates but also how we can engage with the public, so working with the CCS to achieve Ultra status gave us the chance to do that.
"We're extremely proud to be the first site in Wales and Kier's first site to be accredited to CCS Ultra. It's testament to the hard work of our supply chain and subcontractors as we've all worked together to make the site as good as it can be."
