Drones Are Saving The Construction Industry Millions

Construction News Image
Drones are generally small machines and in skilled hands have great manoeuvrability that can be used to reach otherwise inaccessible locations.

They are saving the construction industry millions by: tracking projects to ensure progress stays on schedule; reaching inaccessible or dangerous locations; collecting extensive live data; and creating 3D rendering and mapping or 360 aerial views.

Inspections or surveys over large bodies of water, dangerous terrain or areas too high or too far out for a site crane to reach, can be overflown in a quick and very cost-effective way.

The advantages of using drone video or high quality stills photography in construction are many, ranging from increased communication between stakeholders, marketing, engineers, surveyors and site managers who can view progress and discuss future planning remotely saving, time, travel and labour costs.

Rather than relying on human resources and heavy machinery drones can also collect live data and stream it to meetings, create 3D rendering as well as site mapping of very large areas that make up modern construction sites.

This data can show how the project is progressing and how any areas are ahead of schedule or falling behind, how employees can best work effectively and managers can better plan future resources.

Images are also dual purpose as they are invaluable for creating marketing material and with the use of CGI can show potential purchasers views from an apartment that hasn't even been built yet.

Using time-lapse imagery interest can be generated of a project coming together to be shown on company websites or used on social media.

With Brexit uncertainty continuing to affect future forecasts on the growth of the UK construction industry modern technology proving multi-level solutions that can also be an overall cost saving should be welcomed.

Skypower is pleased to work with a number of high profile companies in this field providing the necessary licenses and experience to fly within congested areas such as London and difficult areas such as live airfields and to have staff that are familiar and trained to work on busy working sites.
