Morgan Sindall Construction has been selected as preferred bidder to develop a new leisure centre in Woolwich for the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The project is being delivered under the Southern Construction Framework (SCF), a quality-managed collaborative construction framework for public bodies to procure major building works using a two stage open book process to deliver best value.
The new leisure centre will be situated on the current site of Viscount House, next to General Gordon Square, in Woolwich town centre. It will provide a wide range of state-of-the-art facilities to encourage families, young people and adults to be more active, and will include flexible and accessible community spaces.
Richard Dobson, Morgan Sindall Construction's area director for London, said: "Leisure and community facilities provide a vital local resource for people of all ages and backgrounds and we are delighted to have been appointed as preferred bidder on this significant development. The new centre will enhance the facilities available for the community in Greenwich – providing both state of the art leisure facilities and flexible, welcoming spaces for community activities.
"Morgan Sindall Construction has an outstanding track record in delivering complex, high-profile leisure and community facilities for local authority partners across London and the UK's key cities, and we're pleased to be able to bring this experience and insight to this important project.
"We look forward to working closely with the Royal Borough of Greenwich and our project partners including Hadron Consulting and Faulkner Browns Architects to deliver a truly world-class leisure centre and community facility in the heart of the borough."
