While many firms tend to focus on "shell and core" type fit-out projects in construction, Harmoney have successfully prepared claims for various types of projects.
Harmoney believe that technical challenges can exist in several types of project scopes.
They have been able to claim for the following activities:
• Design and integration of new HVAC and Mechanical systems to suit new office layouts with greater occupants.
• Modularisation of new office spaces without impacting on structural or acoustic performance.
• Development of new processes using alternative construction materials.
• Development of new construction processes to work in live environments.
• Design of processes to overcome challenges of the existing building; i.e. can't route pipework or flooring is not level.
Client Case Study 1
Harmoney successfully helped a client that was undertaking a project for the construction of a new 3-storey building. The proposed site was extremely constrained which made it difficult to get craneage that could lift large loads onto the site. The team was therefore required to undertake an R&D project that looked at developing the proposed design using only light weight materials that could be lifted into position. The team was required to ensure that the designs were robust and provided the required structural properties.
Client Case Study 2
In this project, the client was required to develop solutions to facilitate the conversion of a large multi-storey warehouse facility to a range of apartments. This was challenging as the team was required to develop novel solutions to ensure that each apartment would have the necessary service provisions and attempted to make sure the design avoided clashes with the existing building. The team, therefore, developed new services provisions and structural systems to contain the services.
There are a wealth of seemingly everyday activities within construction, that are deemed qualifying R&D activity by HMRC. If you are unsure whether or not your company is eligible for a rebate based upon your activity, call us for friendly expert advice.
