Knowsley Council has teamed up with Enervo to upgrade the transport network in and around Liverpool.
The Merseyside council collaborated with Enerveo to kick off the new Kirkby Railway Station Project at Headbolt Lane. The £80 million project has been hailed as a key part of the Council’s strategy to support the region’s economic recovery in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Increasing connectivity within the region also supports vital ongoing efforts to improve local residents' access to schools, employment opportunities and training.
Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, has praised the new station as: "Another step on the journey towards my ambition of building a London-style transport system for our region. I want to make getting around as quick, cheap, clean and reliable wherever you live."
The station is set to open in April 2023, so the Council and Enerveo team have been working closely against the clock, to complete the required infrastructure work, which included improving access and safety with:
• a widened footpath to accommodate a combined cycle and pedestrian path
newly installed street lighting up to, and throughout, the station's car park.
• the cyclist and pedestrian access to the station forms part of a larger focus for Knowsley Council to offer safe alternatives to getting in the car. The council passionately promotes the Liverpool City Region Active Travel campaign, which champions walking and cycling as better for the environment, better for your health and an option to save you money.
Philip McGreal, project manager at Knowsley Council commented: "My thanks to the Enerveo team for the works undertaken recently on Headbolt Lane ahead of programmed dates. Enerveo’s assistance was extremely helpful to complete works, within a difficult one-way system, and keep residents in happy, smiley moods."
John Bate, Enerveo project manager for the Knowsley Street Lighting PFI added: "We love nothing more than supporting our customers with their plans to build better communities that have a positive and lasting impact in the areas we work in.
"As Street Lighting PFI Provider to the Local Authority for the past 10 years, we were really pleased to work on this project together and build on the great working relationship that we have with Knowsley Council employees. We understand the pressures that these high-profile projects can bring, so we are always more than willing to go that extra yard to help our partners achieve their goals."
