Housebuilder The Hill Group has started construction work on the Colindale Estate Regeneration Scheme.
The extensive regeneration project will provide 753 homes for the community, with over a quarter of them available through Shared Ownership and Affordable Rent.
Work has now begun on the first phase of this multi-phase construction project at the 10-acre site, starting with the demolition of existing residential units and the construction of 38 affordable homes. The development, comprising houses, maisonettes, and apartments, will eventually result in 272 affordable homes and 481 private sale homes, catering to the diverse needs of the community.
Designed by architects Levitt Bernstein, the development will transform the 1970s estate with high-quality housing surrounded by a central urban square and abundant green open space. The central square and connected communal courtyards, play areas, and improvements to the adjacent public open space will create a vibrant, connected neighbourhood for new and existing residents.
Andy Hill, Group Chief Executive of The Hill Group commented: "The ground breaking ceremony for this transformative project at the DBP Estate is a true testament to our commitment to delivering high-quality, affordable homes with our partners Home Group. This project is not just about building homes, it’s about building a brighter future for all who will call it their home. I am thrilled to mark the start of this historic development for the Colindale community, which will bring countless benefits to the neighbourhood for generations to come."
Will Gardner, Executive Director of Development at Home Group, said: "Local residents have been at the heart of the planning process for this vital piece of regeneration and so we can be sure that the work beginning on site today has the full support of the community. We look forward to further neighbourhood engagement over the course of the project, including employment and training opportunities for local people."
The first phase of the 10-year project is set to be completed in 2024. Joint venture partners, Hill and Home Group are committed to working closely with the community throughout the 10-year development cycle to bring social benefits through training initiatives and job opportunities for residents.
