Specialist engineering contractor, McGee, has been appointed as principal contractor for the next phase of works at major residential redevelopment in St John's Wood, London.
McGee, previously appointed to deliver asbestos removal, demolition and enabling works, has subsequently been appointed to deliver the next phase of integrated specialist activities, which will see them undertaking the piling, excavation, reinforced concrete, and installation of bearings on the five-acre basement. Work to retain the Grade II listed Riding School is also being carried out as part of the scheme.
It will also be the first time McGee will deploy the latest addition to its fleet; an additional state-of-the-art, Bauer BG33 piling rig. The new rig, like all its plant and fleet exceeds industry standards. With a Euro 6 engine, it's not only high performing it's greener. With state-of-the-art technology, the new rigs are quieter and safer, meaning less disruption.
The 2.2-hectare site, which served as headquarters for the Royal Horse Artillery until 2012, is located in the heart of St John's Wood between Finchley Road and Primrose Hill. The site will be transformed into a high-quality residential development providing c.120 private and 100 affordable homes. The development will celebrate and commemorate the Barrack's history and remain in keeping with the surrounding area.
Gareth Stow, Chief Operating Officer for St John's Wood Square Limited, said: "We selected McGee after a competitive process based on their team, technical response to a complex build, attention to detail and strong track record. We are looking forward to working on the next stage of the project with McGees, following their successful demolition works, to deliver a significant basement contract."
Seb Fossey, Managing Director of McGee, said: "The whole McGee team are incredibly proud and excited to have been appointed to deliver the next phase of this major super-prime scheme, building on the relationship and trust earned with the client team.
Throughout the demolition and enabling works, we've shown our passion and ability to deliver on our commitments. We look forward to continuing this collaborative approach throughout the rest of this prestigious project."
