New from Aico is the Firecap CFS100 series of recessed fan and vent sleeves, designed to restore the fire rating of ceilings penetrated by recessed ceiling fans and ventilation ducts.
When a hole is made in a ceiling for a polymeric fan or vent, it compromises the fire safety rating of that ceiling and the hole must be fire stopped in accordance with Approved Document B of Building Regulations. Aico's new Firecap CFS100 series has been designed to provide maximum protection for holes created by the introduction of the most popular sizes of polymeric recessed ceiling fans or vents. If a fire breaks out, the CFS100 sleeve expands internally to crush the spigot of the fan or vent and create an effective barrier against smoke or flames.
Aico says that, unlike other 'intumescent' materials, the new Firecap CFS100 sleeve does not need any additional support and will only expand inwards.
They can be used effectively to restore the fire integrity of 30 or 60-minute fire rated ceilings. Indeed, Firecap CFS100 have been rigorously tested by independent laboratories to BS476 Part 21 to show that they not only restore the fire rating but actually exceed it. Firecap CFS100 Sleeves can be fitted simply and easily in a matter of seconds, with no mastic, screws or support required.
Lightweight and capable of being fitted above or below the ceiling, the sleeves are easy to retrofit onto existing fans and vents as well as being an essential safety measure when introducing new fans and vents through a ceiling area. Once in place they are invisible.
