Period timber windows and doors supplied by Mumford & Wood have been used in the sympathetic restoration of an 1810 Tudor Hall situated in idyllic rural Kent countryside.
The property has a history of its own, and not always without drama. Originally an all-boys school, the property was converted to a hostelry in the First World War and was subsequently requisitioned early in the Second World War for the billeting of troops. Post war saw its return to a hostelry where is has served locals for several decades but was allowed to fall into neglect during recent years.
Under the care of Sussex-based specialists, the property is being restored to its former glory combining traditional Kentish architectural style with the benefit of modern comforts. The Hall will provide six three to five bedroom dwellings, one of which must essentially remain a bed and breakfast establishment.
Materials have been chosen with utmost care to replicate features of the original building and to satisfy the requirements of the local planning authority. Mumford & Wood’s windows and French doorsets from the Conservation range have been used throughout and will contribute significantly to the high performance of the properties. Most of the original walls and brickwork have been retained and window and door openings have been left unchanged.
"Almost every opening was different in size but our bespoke manufacturing processes can cope easily with this, even in low-volume orders,” says Chris Wood, Sales & Marketing Director. "Our products also achieve the highest possible levels of thermal performance while factory finishing with water-based paints and stains, for extended life and reduced maintenance cycles, make them eco-friendly and today’s choice of modern developers, planners and specifiers."
In this project factory finished double glazed units have been used throughout although Mumford & Wood offer a single glazed alternative required in many sensitive heritage and restoration programmes.
