Construction Leaders Join Experts For 2012 Roadshow

Constructing Excellence and its regional partner, the East Midlands Centre for constructing the Built Environment (EMCBE), are today hosting a major regional roadshow in Melton Mowbray.

The event, entitled '2012 Construction Commitments: A Winning Business Strategy', focuses on how the industry can achieve new levels of performance and benefit from the opportunities presented by the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The roadshow features high-profile speakers from organisations including the Olympic Delivery Authority; East Midlands Development Agency (emda); the Department for Business Enterprise and Regulatory Reform; The Office of Government Commerce; The Health and Safety Executive; ConstructionSkills and business and client leaders from the East Midlands.

At the roadshow, delegates will be discussing the impact of the 2012 Construction Commitments and how to adopt key areas from the Commitments to improve the delivery of construction projects. The structure for the conference also integrates the Common Minimum Standards and the CDM Regulations. Over 400 industry leaders have attended other regional equivelants of this roadshow to date. They are aimed at clients, consultants, designers, leading contractors, manufacturers and suppliers.

The 2012 Construction Commitments, which can be adopted by all organisations committed to the best practice, cover issues that are key to improvement, such as procurement, sustainability, health and safety, design quality and client leadership.

The commitments are designed for companies working in all areas of construction. They are intended to ensure that the London 2012 Games act is a catalyst for a legacy of performance improvement across the built environment sector.

David Walker, chairman of East Midlands Centre for constructing the Built Environment said: "The East Midlands has a thriving economy. The role of the construction sector is vital to balancing economic growth and sustainable development. This roadshow will be a valuable opportunity to help many local, as well as national organisations understand the impact of the 2012 Commitments. At the same time we want to highlight the opportunities to renew and improve the construction sector."

The conference is part of a series of regional conferences being held across the UK for all stakeholders of the Built Environment.
