HSE Construction Day Brings Safety Message

Construction News Image
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is holding half-day safety events for the North West construction industry at Haydock Park racecourse on Thursday 11 September.

The events - starting at 8.15am and 12.15pm - will last a little over two years, during which participants will hear presentations on and see demonstrations of equipment for safe work at height, avoiding exposure to asbestos and precautions to reduce and avoid noise and vibration.

Both sessions are already oversubscribed, meaning that more than 400 construction workers and managers are due to attend.

HSE Principal Construction Inspector Anna Bliss, said: "The day is one of a series of free partnership events run by the industry for the industry as part of the UK-wide Working Well Together (WWT) campaign.

"Tragically on average one construction worker is killed every week in the UK. Many who have accidents in the industry are working for themselves or working for a small business. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of key health and safety issues facing the construction industry and give practical advice on how to avoid risks on construction sites."

She continued: "Local major construction companies have sponsored this event so that smaller companies can get relevant free advice. For anyone with a small building, construction or contracting company or if you are self employed and would like up to date advice to help you get to grips with health and safety, the free half day event is a must."
