A new long-term partnership between Norwich City Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) has been announced.
The council is entering into an agreement with the national housing and regeneration body which is expected to create more than 1300 new homes and hundreds of new jobs over a 12-year period.
Under the partnership, the HCA will invest £7.5m into Norwich and the city council will invest a number of sites for new homes around the city.
These sites will be jointly developed and the surplus which comes out of these - which could be as much as between £60-80m over the next 12 years - will be reinvested jointly into more regeneration schemes in the city. This initiative has been progressed with advice from consultant Richard Jones at EC Harris.
Norwich City Council Executive Member for Housing and Adult Services Brenda Arthur said: "This is really fantastic news for the city - new homes people can afford to rent and buy.
"It is good to see that, with this partnership, Norwich is once again at the vanguard of developing pioneering strategies to give our residents and tenants a city they can afford to live and work in and want to feel part of.
"I'm sure people living in Norwich will be delighted to hear this news."
The partnership is designed to ensure that local communities take part in plans for new developments, and that these meet the HCA's current and future standards of design.
It is hoped that there will be job opportunities created straight away through the construction and supply chain. This partnership will be linked to local job creation and employment opportunities as well as supporting the local construction industry.
